Tell a story.
I have lost count how many times mentors and fellow artists have reminded me to "Keep it simple, stupid". And they are right, because what it all really boils down to are those three simple words: tell a story. That is what I try to focus on when I approach a play whether I am acting, directing, creating, etc. I am very passionate about many types of theatre and the various mediums manipulated to create a theatrical piece. However, to me, the most exciting theatre is one that doesn't need the elaborate sets, props, costumes, etc. Just an honest character on stage confiding to us their story. And, I suppose, that is the other objective I associate with theatre: honesty.
I believe theatre should be honest, collaborative, accessible and course entertaining. And it is my hope to bring that to the table no matter what hat I'm wearing.
